INFRASTRUCTURE

TRANSPORTATION:

Thanh Hoa province owns 5 types of transportation, including roads, railways, inland waterways, sea and air roads.

ROADS

The total length of roads in Thanh Hoa province is 28,760 km, comprising 1 expressway (98.8 km), 13 national highways (1,365.2 km), 68 provincial roads (1,545 km), and other roads totaling 25.750,8 km. These roads include major routes such as the North-South Expressway, the coastal road, National Highway 1A, Ho Chi Minh Road, and Highways 47, 217, and 15C, which connect Thanh Hoa province to the Lao PDR. Other important routes, including Highways 10, 15, and 45, link Thanh Hoa with neighboring provinces like Ninh Binh and Phu Tho.

SEA ROADS

Nghi Son deep-sea port is a type-I national general port and has the potential to develop into a notable seaport. Currently, it has 35 operating piers, buoys, and anchoring areas totaling 5,343m. It received the most significant ship with a tonnage of 320,000 tons and can receive 100,000 DWT ships. The goods that passed through the port in 2023 reached 46.1 million tons (45.8 million tons passed through Nghi Son port). There are 02 shipping lines (CMA - CGM shipping lines and VIMC shipping company) operating international container transport routes from Nghi Son to Europe, the US, and Singapore. 

RAILWAYS

The North-South railways running through Thanh Hoa province are 103.5 km long with 10 stations, including 02 main stations (Thanh Hoa and Bim Son stations). The high-speed railway on the North-South axis section through Thanh Hoa province has a length of 95.2 km that is expected to begin construction from 2026 to 2030.

INLAND WATERWAYS

There are 23 inland waterways, totaling 761.5 km, including eight central inland waterways, 213 km long, and 15 local waterways, 548.5 km long.

AIR ROADS

Since opening for civil aviation in February 2013, Tho Xuan Airport has been designated as an international airport and serves as a backup for Noi Bai International Airport. By 2025, passenger traffi c through the airport had exceeded the current design capacity of Passenger Terminal T1, which is rated at 1.16 million passengers per year.

ELECTRICITY INFRASTRUCTURE:

Power supply: Currently, there are 19 power plants in operation with a total installed capacity of 2,488.36 MW, including: 13 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 610.66 MW; 02 coal-fi red thermal power plants with a total capacity of 1,800 MW; 01 solar power project with a capacity of 30 MWp; 03 biomass power projects with a total capacity of 47.7 MW.

500 kV Transmission Grid: There are 02 operating 500 kV substations (Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant and Thieu Hoa) with a total capacity of 2,100 MVA, and 345.74 km of 500 kV transmission lines (including Circuit 1, Circuit 2, and Circuit 3).

220 kV Transmission Grid: There are 05 operating 220 kV substations with a total capacity of 2,250 MVA, and 443.6 km of 220 kV transmission lines. 110 kV Transmission Grid: There are 46 operating 110 kV substations with a total capacity of 3,514 MVA, and 1,094 km of 110 kV transmission lines.

110kV power grid: In the province, there are currently 46 operating 110kV substations with a total capacity of 3,514 MVA and 1,094 km of 110kV transmission lines.

Medium-voltage Grid: There are 10 intermediate substations with a total capacity of 91.9 MVA and 10,642 distribution substations with a total capacity of 3,787 MVA, along with 9,648 km of medium-voltage lines.

Low-voltage Grid: There are 16,417 km of low-voltage lines across the province.

POSTS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM

The province's post and telecommunications system is distributed throughout, which creates favorable conditions for modern communication locally, domestically, and internationally.

WATER SUPPLY INFRASTRUCTURE

There are currently 30 water treatment plants serving urban areas across the province, with a total design capacity of 320,820 m³/day. The actual clean water production capacity currently reaches 225,000 m³/day.
The coverage rate of urban residents provided with clean water through centralized water supply systems stands at 96%.
