Thanh Hoa Province is located in the North Central Coast region of Vietnam, 150 km from Hanoi and 1,560 km from Ho Chi Minh City (1 hour 40 minutes by air). To the west, the province borders the Lao People's Democratic Republic along a 213.6 km border; to the east lies the Gulf of Tonkin with a 102 km coastline; to the north it borders Ninh Binh, Phu Tho and Son La provinces; and to the south it borders Nghe An Province. It lies close to the Northern Key Economic Region.

타인호아의 자연 면적은 11,111.16 km²로 베트남에서 12번째로 넓으며, 19개 동과 147개 면 등 166개 행정단위로 구성된다. 인구는 430만 명 이상으로 베트남에서 8번째로 인구가 많은 성이며, 노동력은 인구 황금기에 약 270만 명에 달한다. 교육·전문 수준이 비교적 높아 기술, 과학기술, 생산·경영 등 다양한 분야에 적합하다.
