Topography, ecosystem:
Thanh Hoa province has all kinds of topography and ecosystems, including Midlands - Mountains, Delta, and Coastal regions. Each region has its characteristics.
Climate:
Thanh Hoa is located in the tropical monsoon climate with a cool, mild climate with 4 seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
Natural resources:
Thanh Hoa owns rich natural resources such as land, forests, and sea, which is very convenient for developing different industries, construction, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, services, and tourism.
Thanh Hoa has a diverse transport network covering all five modes of transport: road, rail, inland waterway, sea and air.
Total length of 28,760 km, including: 01 expressway of 98.8 km; 13 national highways totalling 1,365.2 km; 68 provincial roads totalling 1,545 km; and other roads totalling 25,750.8 km.
The road routes passing through the province include: the North–South Expressway; the coastal road; National Highway 1A and the Ho Chi Minh Road; National Highways 47, 217 and 15C linking Thanh Hoa with the Lao PDR; and National Highways 10, 15 and 45 linking Thanh Hoa with Ninh Binh and Phu Tho provinces.
Nghi Son Seaport is a national general port and a Class-I regional hub, with the potential to be developed into a special-class seaport, together with the wharves and ports of the Le Mon area. It currently operates 35 wharves, buoy berths and transhipment anchorage areas with a total length of 5,343 m.
At present, 02 shipping lines (CMA-CGM and VIMC Shipping) are in operation, offering international container routes from Nghi Son to Europe, the United States, Singapore and beyond.
The North–South railway running through Thanh Hoa Province is 103.5 km long with 10 stations, including 02 main stations (Thanh Hoa Station and Bim Son Station). The North–South high-speed railway section crossing Thanh Hoa Province will be 95.2 km long and is scheduled to break ground in the 2026–2030 period.
Since entering civil aviation operation in February 2013, Tho Xuan Airport has been planned as an international airport serving as a back-up for Noi Bai International Airport. In 2025, passenger throughput exceeded the current design capacity of the T1 passenger terminal (1.16 million passengers per year). At present, 02 airlines (Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air) operate the Thanh Hoa–Ho Chi Minh City route with a frequency of around 16–20 take-offs and landings per day.
Power supply: The province currently has 19 power plants in operation with a total capacity of 2,488.4 MW, including 13 hydropower projects (total capacity 610.66 MW), 02 coal-fired thermal power plants (total capacity 1,800 MW), 01 solar power project (30 MWp) and 03 biomass power projects (total capacity 47.7 MW).
500 kV grid: The province operates 02 500 kV substations (Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power and Thieu Hoa) with a total capacity of 2,100 MVA, and 345.74 km of 500 kV lines (Circuits 1, 2 and 3).
220 kV grid: The province operates 05 220 kV substations with a total capacity of 2,250 MVA and 443.6 km of 220 kV lines.
110kV grid: The province operates 46 110 kV substations with a total capacity of 3,514 MVA and 1,094 km of 110 kV lines.
Medium-voltage grid: The province operates 10 intermediate substations (total capacity 91.9 MVA) and 10,642 distribution substations (total capacity 3,787 MVA), with 9,648 km of medium-voltage lines.
Low-voltage Grid: The province has 16,417 km of low-voltage lines.
The province has 30 urban water supply plants with a total design capacity of 320,820 m³/day-night and a total clean-water production capacity of 225,000 m³/day-night. 96% of the urban population is supplied with clean water through centralised water supply systems.
Thanh Hoa boasts abundant and distinctive sea and island tourism resources, with many renowned, beautiful beaches — such as Hai Tien, Sam Son, Tien Trang, Hai Hoa and Bai Dong (Nghi Son) — that attract millions of visitors.
Ecotourism and community tourism sites in the mountainous areas of Thanh Hoa: Thac May (Thach Quang Commune), Pu Luong Nature Reserve (Co Lung Commune), Ben En National Park (Nhu Thanh Commune), Cam Luong Sacred Fish Stream (Cam Tu Commune), Ban Ma (Thuong Xuan Commune), Ban Hang (Phu Le Commune)…
Thanh Hoa currently has 300 cultural festivals, of which 15 have been inscribed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as 858 ranked historical-cultural relics and scenic landscapes, comprising: 01 World Cultural Heritage site, 05 special national relics, 139 national relics and 713 provincial-level relics.
Notable sites include: the Lam Kinh Special National Relic Site, the Ho Citadel World Cultural Heritage site, the Ba Trieu Temple special national relic complex, Le Hoan Temple, Doc Cuoc Temple, the Nui Do and Dong Son relics, and the Ham Rong historical relic site.
Currently, there is one golf course in operation; by 2030, plans are to develop 13 golf courses associated with high-end resort tourism and eco-urban areas in Sam Son Ward, Hoang Tien, Quang Yen, Nhu Thanh, Ba Thuoc, Cam Tu, Sao Vang Communes, and Nghi Son Economic Zone…
Financial, banking, transport and other services, worker housing, entertainment areas and the like are widely distributed across the province, promptly meeting the needs of local agencies, organisations, enterprises and residents.
